A music store is where a musician can find just about anything he or she needs for their craft. Most cities in America have at least one, and they are often an integral part of their neighborhoods. Local music stores are especially important to young musicians who are often in need of the basics.

While some music stores only supply a certain niche, like guitars or drums, most stores will be able to supply any common musical instrument. Most stores will have sections for woodwinds, brass, strings, as well as more hi-tech instruments like synthesizers and other midi-based equipment. Local stores will often be able to order harder to find items if they are requested. A specialized piano store, is most often the best place to buy a digital piano.

In addition to musical instruments, most quality music stores will offer a variety of other equipment for the musician. Audio visual items such as speakers, mixing consoles, microphones, and even stage lights can often be purchased from these stores. In recent years, music writing and recording software for home computers have become very popular items as well.
